Welcome to Vitaly Italian & Woodfire Pizza Restaurant
Located in the heart of the Peninsula Village Shopping Centre in Matraville, Vitaly Italian & Woodfire Pizza Restaurant offers a warm and inviting space for those who appreciate the timeless traditions of Italian cuisine. Our restaurant is designed to be a neighborhood hub where friends, families, and food enthusiasts can gather to enjoy honest, handcrafted meals prepared with care. We believe that the foundation of great Italian food lies in the quality of ingredients and the patience required to let flavors develop naturally. Whether you are looking for a casual weeknight dinner or a place to celebrate a special occasion, our doors are open to provide a dining experience that feels like a home away from home.
At Vitaly, we prioritize the art of wood-fired cooking. This ancient technique is more than just a method; it is the soul of our kitchen. By utilizing the intense, natural heat of a wood-fired oven, we are able to achieve a unique texture and flavor profile in our pizzas that simply cannot be replicated by modern appliances. The result is a crust that is perfectly blistered, light, and airy, providing the ideal canvas for our carefully selected toppings. Beyond our signature pizzas, our menu reflects a dedication to classic Italian techniques, focusing on the balance of fresh produce, high-quality cheeses, and authentic herbs that define the Mediterranean palate.
What Makes Our Restaurant Special
Authentic Wood-Fired Craftsmanship: Our kitchen centers around a traditional wood-fired oven, which imparts a distinct smoky aroma and a signature charred crust to every pizza we serve, ensuring an authentic taste experience in every bite.

Commitment to Quality Ingredients: We place a high value on sourcing reliable components for our dishes. By focusing on the integrity of our ingredients, we ensure that every pasta dish, salad, and pizza maintains a consistent standard of flavor and freshness.
A Passion for Italian Heritage: Our culinary approach is deeply rooted in the traditions of Italian cooking. We aim to honor these classic recipes while presenting them in a way that resonates with contemporary tastes and preferences.
The philosophy at Vitaly Italian & Woodfire Pizza Restaurant is simple: we want to share our love for good food with the people of New South Wales. We understand that dining out is about more than just satisfying hunger; it is about the atmosphere, the conversation, and the shared enjoyment of a well-prepared meal. Our team works diligently to ensure that every guest feels welcomed from the moment they arrive until the final bite. We take pride in being a part of the vibrant Matraville area and look forward to continuing our tradition of serving high-quality, wood-fired Italian cuisine to our loyal patrons.

The experience at Randwick is certainly much better. Terrible service and not timely st all. Don’t order online as the restaurant can’t cope with the volume. More

I had a pizza for takeaway. Was burnt in one side which was sad because I could only taste the burnt :c. Also every time I pulled a slice, almost everything ended up in the box.

Lovely staff, friendly, cosy atmosphere. But the food - my goodness. I have 20 years of experience in food service, all in Italian restaurants. This, I’m sorry to say, is not Italian food. Our meals weren’t edible: leather strip veal, piles … More

The pizza was good, maybe a little bland. It was a gloomy day and with the door open, it was a bit chilly inside. We also ordered two Aperol Spritz, which unfortunately arrived after the beers and while we were already eating our pizzas — though they were quite good.
We’ll be back. More

Restaurant Name: Vitaly
Location: Matraville, NSW
Cuisine Type: Italian + Pizza
Ambiance: The restaurant has a touch of rustic décor with dark furniture and is quite spacious. It features two glass walls that allow plenty of sunlight, creating a relaxed atmosphere. It feels homey and inviting, perfect for a casual dinner or family meal. However, since it’s located within a small shopping center, patrons must walk out of the restaurant to use the common lavatories in the complex.
Service: The wait staff was formally friendly and helpful. They kindly allowed us to BYO for a $5 corkage fee, which is standard. Our food arrived within a reasonable time.
The garlic bread was excellent—three big slices of bread, perfectly prepared!
Presentation: The veal was beautifully presented on a white plate with a side of steamed vegetables (see photo). The visuals were appealing.
Taste: The taste was good, and the portion size was reasonable.
Texture: This was where my surprise came. The veal was so chewy that I had to ask the staff for a replacement dish. They quickly took a new order, and I decided on lamb fettuccini ‘ragu.’ The fettuccine was well-cooked, and the taste was good. As for the lamb, we could see the fibres clearly, and I didn’t complain.
Temperature: The food was served warm enough, but if you prefer your food to arrive “smoking” hot, you may need to ask.
Value for Money: The fettuccine ($29.00) and veal ($35.00) were reasonably priced, considering the portion size and quality (let’s hope the veal was just a one-time misfortune). Overall, the prices are in line with the average for this kind of meal.
Overall Experience: I left Vitaly feeling satisfied—not so much because of the full experience, but because the situation was handled professionally. The combination of good service, flavorful food, and welcoming ambiance makes this a solid choice for a meal out.
Coffee: It’s well known that Australia has some inconsistencies in coffee quality, especially in cafes and restaurants. Unfortunately, Vitaly is no exception. The coffee could use improvement, but I don’t blame them entirely. Hopefully, they can work on it.
Recommendation: I recommend Vitaly to those seeking a casual yet flavorful dining experience, particularly for Italian food. Bring your family and friends. Next time, I’m sure the veal will be as it should be—nice and tender.
Thank you for reading!

The pizza, while it looked good, just lacked the final touch.
The garlic bread. I could have made that at home.
I’ve been to the Randwick one, and that tasted 10x better.
I’ll give it a pass mark, as Dominoes down the road and La Pera are horrible. More

Magnificent food! The Sofia Loren was one of the best pasta dishes I have ever tasted! The burata for the entree was also delicious. Everyone was very happy with their meals. Our only regret is that we were too full to try a dessert. Atmosphere gets fewer points because it was rather noisy.

Our pizza arrived too quickly. There was no way that it was carefully prepared. Not only that but it wasn’t hot, just slightly warm. The cheese on top was melted but gluggish and cold. There was only one other couple in this restaurant so they certainly weren’t rushed and busy. This was my first visit to Vitaly and my last.

We have been frequenting this place as a family of 5 for some time now. Food has always been very tasty, good size portions and you can tell chefs put their soul into it. Staff, while we’ve been seeing new faces every time we visit, have always been very attentive - you can tell there is a very positive culture within this business. We have always been happy with food and service, and have always been leaving a very generous cash tip.
Tonight’s experience has unfortunately been different. We made an over the phone booking for 5:30pm. We ordered entrees and aperitif drinks, followed by kids’ meals, mains and accompanying drinks. We finished our mains around 6:40 and were enjoying our time with kids while waiting for staff to collect the plates and take our dessert orders - restaurant has been buzzing full of life by this time and, understandably, staff were running very busy.
At 7pm waitress came up to our table and informed us that people that booked the table after us have arrived and we need to vacate. When we asked why hasn’t anyone told us that there is a time limit and that we wanted desserts, we were told that they can put kids ice creams in takeaway containers. We reluctantly agreed and it took about 2 minutes for waitress to show up at our table with a takeaway bag ready to hand over once we get up…..
I have never before been asked to leave a restaurant, especially one that i have consistently been ‘greasing up’ with generous cash tips.
Very disappointed customer….

Enjoyable meal, everything we ordered was delicious. Started with the garlic crust with tapanade, mains were ragu pasta and the rigatoni, the servings didn't look huge because they came on enormous plates but we couldn't finish them. Loved the rocket and pear salad, they chop the rocket into edible lengths and its all coated in dressing. But we found room for dessert with the tiramisu, gelato and affogato. Our waitress was lovely, not a long wait for food.

We ordered some takeaway pizza. The restaurant is on the outside corner of Peninsula Village Shopping Centre so it may be more convenient to park on the street if you can find it, rather than in the underground car park.
Service is lovely - our pizzas were just a couple minutes late and they were very nice about it and offered us to sit down or a drink of water.
The woodfire pizzas themselves were delicious. We got the ciccio piccante (Italian sausage, blue cheese, nduja, mushroom, etc.) and BBQ chicken (BBQ sauce, chicken, pesto, onions, etc.). Both are generously sized. Thin bases, lightly fluffy, chewy crusts, good flavour in the crust.
I picked the ciccio piccante because the ingredient combo was very unique. The blue cheese was VERY generous and visible - it is quite pungent but I think it's more palatable baked and melted than when it's solid, and it's also balanced out by the nduja which has quite a spicy kick to it so it helps to cut the heaviness/creaminess.
I would absolutely return to Vitaly!
